Nashville International Airport

Visual Identity
Art Direction

Working with BNA’s executive and internal marketing team, I created an updated visual identity and helped extend and develop the brand language through advertisements, environmental design, event collateral, and other branded products.

Process

The rebrand of the airport came at a pivotal moment for Nashville. The city was growing non-stop, and there were concerns about losing what made it “Music City” to begin with. With BNA operating as the gateway to the city, we wanted to honor the history and culture of Nashville. The airport needed a comprehensive rebrand that contained previously independent subbrands and departments.

The project kicked off with a thorough exploration into music theory, the Nashville Number System for music transcription, the origin story of the "B" in BNA (that’s from the original 1937 “Berry Field” airport, by the way!), and the nature of air travel itself.

For a little over 3 years, I led the art direction of BNA including projects like ad campaigns, event branding, environmental design, annual reports, social media, photo shoots, and various collateral.

Outcome

We landed (🤪✈️) on an identity that emphasized the B of BNA. The shape of the B was designed to reference the constant motion of air travel — arrivals and departures, hellos and goodbyes. Beyond aesthetics, it delivered a powerful message: to Be Nashville, an invitation to foster community and celebrate the exceptional qualities that make Nashville the warm, creative, and welcoming "Music City."
